William H. Johnson

William H. Johnson was a painter from South Carolina. He was born in 1901 in Florence, S.C. I discovered his life and work at the Greenville County Museum of Art. His paintings of farm life for African Americans in S.C. during the pre-Civil Rights Movement days and windows into the life and hearts of the characters in my story. It was a serendipity for me to find him.
